Shangri-La

The Shangri-La resort and spa is hidden from Old Route 41 by a high fence and row of trees.
Peeking in, a big white hotel comes into view.

Built in 1921 and progressing through a series of owners, the hotel and spa
have been renovated in recent years.

There are the usual spa services along with an organic farm and restaurant.
Shangri-La is also a popular wedding venue.

Not quite my idea of an earthly paradise but it looks very pleasant.

I stayed in the Shangri-La hotel in Vancouver last summer, and it had a copy of the novel at the bedside table. I wonder if this one does also? Although very different from one another, I would enjoy staying in this one also!

I'd be happy to do a 'secret shopper' stay there, to see if it really is a paradise.

That really is a beautiful place. I can see why it would be a popular wedding location.

This reminds me of the very old movie "Lost Horizons". Way before my time but I liked it!

It retains the air of its original era. One expects to see Gloria Swanson descend the stairs. But it looks a little lonely. Where are the minions?
